Hoist & Crane Inspection Services

For every company, safety is not only a requirement, but a key component in running a successful business. Any time your business requires the use of a hoisting device or rig, your equipment needs to be in good working order.

From the structural steel that these devices hang from, to the hoists themselves, all must work congruently, to complete the movement of materials safely within your facility. We can provide peace of mind that the overhead rigging devices used in your facility can do the job safely and efficiently.

Benefits of Inspection

Gone are the days of running until failure. Today, most world-class facilities minimize downtime by proactively scheduling maintenance. Their efforts often minimize or eliminate costly downtime of critical equipment that keep their business from running smoothly.

The same is true for safety. Regular maintenance can minimize and sometimes eliminate any safety threats that come from overused equipment and run-down parts.

Regular crane and hoist inspections provide additional incentives including:

  • Compliance with OSHA and ANSI requirements for inspections.
  • Elimination of down-time due to mechanical failure.
  • Improve overall plant safety.
  • Correct minor problems before they become costly failures.
  • Documentation that inspections have been completed in the event of an incident.

What does Newell Inspect?

Depending on your needs, our certified technicians will inspect every part of your overhead, jib, and gantry crane. We perform an inspection and operational test of the installation, and all hoist components; from the hoists and trolleys to the runways and controls.

During our service, our technician will perform the following tasks:

  • Visual inspection of the structural members; looking for missing fasteners and signs of wear or damage.
  • Visual inspection of the sheaves, drums, bearings, and wheels of the hoist and trolley.
  • Inspection of all braking mechanisms for proper operation.
  • Visual inspection of the hoist’s cable or load chain for wear including abrasion, corrosion, and kinking or “bird-caging” of wire rope slings.
  • Inspection of all bumpers, stops, and any applicable rail sweeps.
  • Inspect all electrical connections including power rail, brushes, and components for signs of wear, damage, or arcing.
  • Inspect and test the operation of all safety devices such as lights, audible alarms, limit switches, and safety components
  • Inspect load hook for wear, stretch, or any damage.
  • Check for full and proper operation of the entire crane system.
  • Provide you with full documentation of the services performed in a clear concise report for your files and reference.
  • Enter the inspection into our records for future needs; such as parts and future service.

Onsite Inspection of Hoists & Rigging Devices

Often times, the greatest challenge in inspection of chain falls and other manual hoists is managing the lost production and time spent getting the devices to a shop for load testing, following a repair. Our mobile load testing services can minimize this problem and is capable of load testing hoists up to 10 ton, along with their assorted devices.

Inspections for larger cranes up to 30 tons are performed at your facility utilizing water weights for repairs and recertification when necessary. We also understand that space can be a commodity at any facility. If you would prefer to have the testing and inspections done offsite, we are happy to pick up and deliver your hoisting and rigging equipment after they have been thoroughly inspected at our shop.

In any case, you can rest assured that we can accommodate your schedule and situation to get you back up and running as soon as possible.

Maintenance & Repair

Like any other mechanical equipment, cranes and hoists require maintenance. We can provide a custom preventative maintenance program specially designed to fit your needs and your equipment. From inspection forms, to assisting with parts inventory for common or critical components of the hoist, we can lower your cost of ownership by catching issues early. This also helps eliminate emergency service calls for your most critical equipment.

Repair Services

Inspection of hoisting devices is critical; but the performance of their repairs is just as important. Our technicians have the skills to disassemble your hoist and repair any worn components in a timely manner to get you back up and running.

Once the repairs are made and the device is load tested, it can be put back into service. With it, you’ll receive the supporting documentation required with repairs, precautions and comments for your records.
